Australian striker Rooney scores a tremendous strike for Bengaluru FC from 30 yards

Bengaluru FC stepped up their title challenge with a big victory in Kolkatta against Mohun Bagan. The match ended 2-0 in favour of the away team and Ashley Westwood’s men now know that the title is completely in their hands. Win the remaining two games, and they will be I-League champions in their debut season.

The match was a tight affair that even saw Bengaluru FC manager, Ashley Westwood, sent to the stands for complaining to the 4th official. Thoi Singh gave Bengaluru the lead after a well placed cross-volley by Australian, Sean Rooney. But the game will be remember for Bengaluru FC’s 2nd goal, scored by Rooney. Mohun Bagan’s experience keeper, Nandy, made his clearance straight onto the path of Sean Rooney who chested it down and volleyed home from 3o yards, a wonderful strike.

Bengaluru FC currently have a 4 point lead at the top of the I-League with 2 games to go, however third place East Bengal could close the gap to a point as they have two games in hand.
