Anfield will bear witness to a special Legends match between a team of local ex-Liverpool players, managed by Kenny Dalglish and assisted by Roy Evans, taking on a team of International ex-Liverpool players managed by Gerard Houllier who will be assisted by his former assistant, Phil Thompson.
With a whole host of recent ex-stars participating in the game, not many will be more recognizable than former cult figure Michael Owen, whose relationship with the fans of his boyhood club turned sour when he firstly left the club for greener pastures with Real Madrid, and later on jumped ship to Liverpool’s rivals Manchester United.
Owen developed a reputation of being plagued by injuries nearly throughout his career, and the club looked to remind him of this with a cheeky gesture prior to the Legends game. This image was tweeted by Michael Owen upon finding this in the dressing room prior to kick-off.
