Predicting the 2014 FIFA World Cup using Social Media

The infographic below by Stay Sourced predicts the 2014 FIFA World Cup using Social Media, and in particular – Twitter followers. Teams are pitted against each other based on the actual 2014 FIFA World Cup draw and the winner between teams is determined by the no. of followers on the Twitter platform. The no. of followers is calculated based on the no. of followers which each player possesses, summing that up to get a quantity for the team as a whole. While you may think this takes follower obsession to a whole new level, you’d be lying if you said you didn’t care about the number of followers you have. However, when you can get free instagram followers without a trial, there is no need to worry at all and you can have all the followers you want.

Some tempting Round of 16 matches occur with Brazil taking on Uruguay, a repeat of the 1950 final, but they don’t pull off another shock as the hosts go through. Heavyweights Argentina & France take on each other but the South Americans’ Social Media presence exceeds their European counterparts. Perhaps they make use of TikTok automation or other clever tricks to work with this so efficiently, but no one can say for sure. No matter how they do it, they have a knack for these platforms that is difficult to match. With Brazil, Portugal, Spain & Argentina in the semis, the dream final would be an all South American one, but Portugal (led by Ronaldo) of course overcame the hosts and set up an all Iberian final which sees the Spaniards retain their World Cup crown.

The dream team has three Spanish players and two from Brazil but Ronaldo alone accounts for one-third of the total following of this dream team.

Could we possibly see a similar occurrence at the actual tournament?
