No one in the Dutch squad except Krul, Van Gaal & Hoek knew about the substituion

There is no doubt that we will be discussing the bold substitution Netherlands made during their game against Costa Rica, switching keepers right at the end for the shootout, for some time to come. Tim Krul and Jasper Cillessen  have now discussed the penalty shootout together in public. Cillessen once again revealed why he was angered by the decision and stated that he wasn’t aware of the planned change but Krul was informed before the match. Both the Dutch & Costa Rican bench were stunned by what was happening, while Cillessen himself was looking forward to competing in a shootout. Bold decision indeed from Van Gaal.
