Edwin van der Sar follows Petr Cech in correcting Sky Sports’ Pepe Reina stat

Poor Sky Sports, last week when Pepe Reina’s move to Bayern Munich was confirmed, they ran a stat showing the most number of clean sheets in the Premier League, Reina being joint-top with Petr Cech in total number (134) but above him as the Spaniard did so in lesser games.

The stat wasn’t entirely accurate, it was actually a modified one showing the number of clean sheets of in the Premier League since Pepe Reina joined Liverpool in 2005 (Cech & van der Sar were there before him). The stat graphic didn’t carry that disclaimer message though, instead it gave the perspective that Reina had more clean sheets than Petr Cech, Tim Howard, Edwin van der Sar and Joe Hart in the Premier League.

Soon after a picture of that stat went viral on Twitter with numerous tweets and retweets, Chelsea keeper Petr Cech was quick to point out the error, tweeting this:

It is true, Petr Cech has crossed the 150 marks and is above Reina in that chart (Cech, Reina and Hart share the record for most number of Premier League Golden Glove awards). Following the Czech keepers’ correction, Edwin van der Sar has also followed suit and sent out a tweet questioning the authenticity of those numbers from Sky Sports. Interestingly, if total Premier League cleansheets are taken, van der Sar would be tied with Reina at 134 with Cech above them both having kept 161 clean sheets. David James leads the list, 9 clean sheets ahead of Cech while fellow Chelsea keeper, Schwazer is third.

If only Sky Sports could have made a correction/justification before it all went Viral.
