Top 5 Young Goalkeepers 2014/15 | Talent Radar Player Rankings (Issue No.2)

#TalentRadar Top 5 Young Goalkeepers // As part of our Talent Radar feature, we will regularly publish Player Rankings of Young Players divided across the four primary positions (goalkeepers, defenders, midfielders & forwards) and focusing on the 6 big leagues of Europe (Bundesliga, La Liga, Premier League, Serie A, Ligue 1 & Eredivisie).

Some FAQs worth reading just to clarify any doubts about this.

What is Talent Radar? Read this for complete details on the feature.

What is the eligibility criteria? Players that were aged 21 years and below on June 1st 2014, are eligible for Talent Radar.

How often will these be published? The rankings will be updated and published every fortnight, along with our Talent Radar Team of the Week.

On what basis are these rankings made? These rankings are purely based on our opinion of the players and their performances. Our opinions are based on various factors; if you do have a question/criticism/feedback about the inclusion/exclusion of a player, then do leave a comment below.

What’s the point of all this? Good question. Well for one thing, it’s fun (isn’t it?). Secondly, we always track the progress and performances of youngsters under our Talent Radar feature. Those who are featured here and in our weekly, monthly pieces, will also be recognised in our end of season Talent Radar Young Player Awards and ofcourse will also influence our hugely popular 100 Best Young Players to Watch list (at the end of the calendar year).

The second issue of the Top 5 Young Goalkeepers so far in 2014-15 has the exact same players as the first issue did, with a couple of changes in ranking. The list as a result, still contains only players from the German Bundesliga & the French Ligue 1. There have been promising showings elsewhere which could enter the Top 5 over the next few issues, but you’ll have to make do with these 5 for now!

Talent Radar Best Young Goalkeepers 2

Bastia’s keeper on loan from PSG, Alphonse Areola, retains top spot in the Goalkeeper rankings; his most recent performance against Bordeaux wasn’t the most solid of displays but it was enough to see him remain at #1. He still has managed only the solitary Team of the Week appearance, but among the keepers eligible for Talent Radar, he has been the most consistent of the lot (although some of the others haven’t quite played as many games).

The big riser into #2 is a Talent Radar favourite from last season, Loris Karius. The youngster had an incredible start to 2014, with regular Talent Radar Team of the Week appearances. Although we don’t intend on having any bias, expectations are that Loris Karius dominates this category. He opened his account this past week after his fantastic display in Mainz’ stalemate against Hannover, reminiscent of many of his performances from last season.

Another riser from the Bundesliga is Timo Horn, playing with newly promoted Cologne and like Karius, kept his first clean sheet of the season as his side got a commendable victory over Stuttgart away from home. Having played half the games the Ligue 1 keepers have, the ones from the Bundesliga have done well to cement their place in the rankings, and can only grow from here.

The likes of Maxime Dupe and Mouez Hassen have shown their ability with good one-off games, but that’s been the issue as they have failed to show any consistency, unable to really justify their inclusion in the list besides due to a lack of options.

The next issue of the Talent Radar Top 5 Young Goalkeeper Rankings will be published on September 24th when we will have a whole host of games to take into consideration, so expect a lot of change in the positions when that does occur. If we were to predict, Loris Karius will remain in there, while you can expect one or two from the Serie A making their way in.

# PLAYER AGE CLUB NATIONALITY TOTW
1 Alphonse Areola 21 Bastia (on loan from PSG) France 1
2 Loris Karius 21 Mainz Germany 1
3 Timo Horn 21 Koln Germany 0
4 Maxime Dupe 21 Nantes France 1
5 Mouez Hassen 19 Nice France 1
