Football derbies and rivalries are often more than just winning a football match. There’s a long standing history, tradition and as is commonly said ‘bragging rights’ among the passionate & faithful supporters. This couldn’t be more true for what is come to be known as the ‘Eternal Derby’ in Croatia.
Dinamo Zagreb and Hajduk Split were founded over 30 years apart, and though the former is the more successful of the two clubs despite being the newer one, there is an intense rivalry that has ensued between the two with a story dating back to the first World War and beyond.
YouTube channel, Copa90, has put together this excellent video that looks at one of Europe’s fiercest rivalries and understands the existence of it. From mutual hatred among ultras to solidarity between the two groups in times of need, the Eternal derby is certainly one of modern football’s most interesting stories.
