Cameroon announce World Cup squad, six Talent Radar youngsters named

Cameroon’s German head coach, Volker Finke, announced the Word Cup squad today as all teams were required to submit their list of players to FIFA. All the Talent Radar youngsters named in the initial 30 man squad, survived the cut and will now be travelling to Brazil.

The two most exciting players named in the squad are Vincent Aboubakar & Joel Matip. 22-yr-old Lorient striker, Vincent Aboubakar, was named in our Talent Radar Ligue 1 Team of the Season but may find chances hard to come by at the World Cup with plenty of attacking options at Finke’s disposal. Schalke’s 22-yr-old centre-back will probably be more lucky in that regard, Joel Matip is expected to take his place in the centre of defence (though the official list has put him down as a midfielder).

Fabrice Olinga who spent last season on loan at Zulte Waregem from Malaga will also be on the flight to Brazil; he is the second youngest player going to the World Cup (behind Luke Shaw). Edgar Salli spent last season in France’s second division with Lens from AS Monaco, but impressed enough to be named in the 23. Loic Feudjou and Cedric Djegoue both of whom are domestic based players with defending Cameroonian champions, Coton Sport, have also made the list. Nice to see some locally based players also impressing at the international stage.
