Pape Diop was subject to racist chants from Atletico fans towards the end of the 90 in Levante’s 2-0 win. The racism situation in Spain is getting out of hand after the entire Dani Alves incident. But the Barca defender handled the situation well and was supported by the entire footballing community. In the aftermath, Pape Diop took a new way to handle racism.
“It’s an issue that has affected me a lot. I went to take a corner and part of the Atlético support began doing monkey chants. To take the heat out of the situation, I started to dance, but I didn’t insult anyone. I don’t have anything against the Atlético supporters because it was only a section of their support that shouted at me. I think it’s disrespectful that it happens at all stadiums. It’s a provocation. I don’t know if it can be called racism, but the monkey chanting has to be stopped now”, the 28-yr-old Levante midfielder said.
It’s a social evil that doesn’t seem to be dying down any time soon, but players are finding ways to handle it and keep the morons shut for some time. (via Vine user Reus_1131)
