Steven Gerrard congratulates Jon Flanagan on England debut

Liverpool’s young defender, Jon Flanagan, made his England debut yesterday against Ecuador. While the 21-yr-old won’t be heading out to Brazil, it will always be a special moment for a player who not too long back didn’t look good enough for a place in a top-flight team.

While many have questioned the need to play Flanagan & Stones in a game 1 week before the World Cup when neither will be in the final squad, Hodgson must be credit for showing his faith in the youngsters. As many as six Talent Radar youngsters are part of England’s World Cup squad.

England & Liverpool captain, Steven Gerrard, took to Twitter to congratulate young Jon Flanagan on his debut, after he made a cameo appearance against Ecuador playing in the right of a four-man defence. It was a nice touch from the skipper, encouraging young players like Flanagan at the national set-up. You can read a Scout Report on Flanagan here if you’re interested.

The message posted on Instagram along with this photo read: Congratulations to Flanno and his family on his England debut tonight, I know how much it means to them all. Well done mate!”
