After England’s disappointing World Cup campaign, the captain that led the Three Lions out in Brazil, has retired. Steven Gerrard has cited the focus on club football and how he possibly may not be fit physically to participate on both fronts in a few years time. He insists that the decision wasn’t made purely on the outcome of the 2014 World Cup, but something he has been contemplating for some time.
Disappointing part was that Steven Gerrard never spoke about giving youngsters a chance in the England set-up as a reason for his retirement, but kept the focus on helping Liverpool Football Club. Honest, I guess, but a clear indication at what’s wrong with English footballers and subsequently their performances at the big stage.
