Borussia Dortmund have had a less than impressive start to the season, picking up seven points from the first six games. Their latest disappointment was the most bitter pill to swallow as Borussia Dortmund lost the Revierderby to rivals Schalke.
Schalke restrained the numbers getting forward, protected against the counter and used individual skill to create chances. Crucially, their ability to distribute play from side-to-side caught Dortmund off-guard.
Dortmund attempted long balls while also leaving themselves exposed to quick coutners.
Both sides were guilty of horror defensive displays leading to the three goals of the game. Dortmund’s defensive set-up for corners is more than questionable, as the video below shows, leaving players unmarked in crucial areas; while it’s hard to rationally explain that clearance.
