The worst nightmare for any World Cup player right now, and his country’s coaching staff, is an injury. With the final list of 23 players required to be submitted by tomorrow, any changes could be a pain for the management. But worse off are the players who are just days away from jetting off to the biggest tournament in football history. A chance to represent your country at the FIFA World Cup is every young player and fans’ dream.
For Club Leon & Mexico midfielder, Luis Montes, the dream seems to have been cut short. The 28-yr-old looked set to be on the plane to Brazil for his first ever World Cup, and impressed in the final warm-up game of Mexico before jetting off. Scoring a sweet strike to give Mexico the lead against Ecuador in a warm-up friendly, the player was involved in a rough challenge with Seguna Castillo with neither emerging from the clash but Montes coming worse off.
He seemed to have broken his leg with pictures spread across the internet. The nasty injury can be viewed below but it doesn’t capture the sheer gruesomeness of the incident.
