Arsenal have certainly got the cheque book out in recent transfer windows and have already signed the likes of Sanchez, Debuchy, Ospina and most recently Calum Chambers. While Debuchy was a like-for-like replacement for Sagna, Chambers’ signing looks like it might be the end of the road for Carl Jenkinson at Arsenal.
Chambers impressed when called upon last season for the Saints. Nathaniel Clyne’s injury gave him a chance to feature regularly for the first team and like so many of his fellow Saints academy graduates, he excelled. It was only a matter of time before the bigger clubs would come calling and Arsenal have moved early to snap him up.
Chambers featured at #13 in the best young defenders section of 100 Best Young Players to watch in 2014. We also have an extensive Scout Report on the young defender.
The 19-year old has definitely shown potential in his short career so far and his versatility is another factor that would’ve tempted Arsene Wenger to sign him. The reported transfer price is quite steep given his inexperience at the top level but it is something that we’ve come to expect from transfers involving talented young Englishmen. It remains to be seen whether he will be able to make an immediate impact though. Talent Radar will continue to track his progress throughout the season.
