In the wonderful world of football fandom, there’s a special place for the away fans. They are the ones who’ve invested plenty of time and money to support their beloved club and offer support to the players in what is often a hostile environment. The appreciation for these fans is further bolstered when there is continental football on offer. Usually played under lights, continental football has a different feel to it as it sees the home fans determined to shout their side to victory met with resistance in the form of away fans who haven’t made the trip to just make up the numbers.
YouTube channel, Copa90 attempt to encapsulate the magic of away days in a series, aptly called UCL Away Days, with the latest installment covering the Benfica vs Galatasaray clash in Lisbon. Rather than just focus on the match day itself, the video does well to deliver a brief look at the origin of Galatasaray and a short glimpse into Istanbul before heading to Portugal. While the video is a bit shorter than we’d like, it does well to provide a taste of the away fan culture with clips of fans marching before the game and in full voice during it.
