Bengaluru FC took on Churchill Brothers in the Indian I-League at the Bangalore Football Stadium on Saturday. Churchill Brothers had recently won the Federation Cup and were defending I-League champions, but have struggled in the league so far. Bengaluru FC on the other hand are the country’s newest team and are currently leading the division, as they look for a maiden title in their first season.
But all the clubs in the I-League are separated by just a few points, so much so that 9th place East Bengal have 4 games in hand and could find themselves just 2 points behind Bengaluru in the table with victories in their games in hand.
Three second half goals were enough for Bengaluru to secure all three points. Indian national team and Bengaluru FC captain, Sunil Chhetri scored a brace while Robin Singh got the other. Robin came on just before half-time and changed the game around. A superb performance from the boys in blue as they inch closer to the title, but need to be vary of complacency following a loss few days back to bottom placed Rangdajied United.
We suggest reading these two pieces on Bengaluru FC, the first which talks about how the club is a new hope for Indian football and the second, focusing on the passionate BFC supporters. We also have one on Mumbai FC coach Khalid Jamil and his comments regarding the supporters, post the Bengaluru-Mumbai game.
