Roma impressed many with last year’s campaign and while they eventually succumbed to Juventus in the race for the Scudetto, Rudi Garcia’s men showed that they could compete at the top.
With the prospect of Champions League football this season, the Giallorossi have already taken steps to strengthen their squad having signed Ashley Cole and Urby Emanuelson on Bosman transfers. They’ve also signed the promising Salih Ucan on loan from Fenerbahce.
The move was confirmed on AS Roma’s official website here.
Dubbed the ‘new Lionel Messi’ ( as have many of his peers ), the Argentine has featured in our Talent Radar list of 100 Best Young Players to Watch out for in 2014. The youngster finished at a lofty number 3 in the category of attackers in that list. The list was compiled at the start of the year and we’ve continued to track his progress since then.
We also have a detailed Scout Report on the youngster who was a pivotal part of a Hellas Verona team which caused a few upsets last season.
The youngster was impressive at Hellas last season and his numbers certainly back it up. He scored 8 goals and 5 assists in 33 Serie A appearances for the Verona side as they finished at a respectable 10th place. The concern though remains that he has had only one good season, after having failed to perform at Porto earlier. A lot of faith in him from Roma and certainly a lot of money spent, but we believe it will prove to be a wise move indeed.
Iturbe was linked with a move to Juventus for much of the off season but it appears that Conte’s resignation put a spanner in the works ( or could it be the other way around? ). Either way, Roma have pulled off a major coup and now have one of Europe’s brightest talents in their hands. Talent Radar will continue to track his progress into the new season and the rest of 2014.
